Sitting down in the chair
1) Ask the patient if they are ready to sit down in their chair.
Example: "Do you want to sit down in your chair?" OR "Are you ready to sit down into your chair?"
2) Lock the breaks on the wheelchair.
3) Make sure that the foot rests are either off of the chair or moved to the sides.
4) Ask the patient to stand as close to the chair as possible.
Example: "Can you stand with your body as close to the seat as you can?"
5) Ask the patient to place their hands behind them to help guide the movement into the chair.
Example: "Can you place your hands back near the seat of the chair?"
6) Ask the patient to bend their body forward, and then bend their knees as they sit down into the chair.
Example: "Can you bend your upper body forward and then bend your knees?
7) Therapist should always keep hands near the patient's hips and move with the patient as they sit down.
