Testing position:
- Sitting or standing
- Stress on one part of the body makes another part of the body respond in kind
- Ex: Squeezing one hand
Positive response:
- Reactions or stress in one side of the body- results in reaction to another part of the body
- Ex: The opposite hand of the one that is squeezing will begin to squeeze as well.
- There is no reaction or response in any body part following a stimulus
- Ex: The opposite hand does not begin to squeeze.
Functional Implications:
- Can not do asymmetrical movements with hands
Examples:
- Putting on mascara and the mouth opens
- When a child is learning to cut with scissors
- Child uses scissors and begins chomping mouth while completing task
- Screwing something in and the other hand twitches in a similar fashion
