Pinch Strength
Three types of Pinch Testing:
Before testing- make sure pt. arm is adducted in a 90 degree angle
Tip Pinch
- Test dominant side first
- Give the client instructions on where to place their fingers
- Give a demonstration
- Have pt. squeeze with thumb and index finger.
- Rest for 2-3 minutes between trials
- Test non-dominant side and repeat
Lateral Pinch/ Key pinch
- Test dominant side first
- Give the client instructions on where to place their fingers
- Give a demonstration
- Have pt. squeeze with thumb pad and lateral aspect of index
- Rest for 2-3 minutes between trials
- Test non-dominant side and repeat
Palmar Pinch/ 3-jaw chuck
- Test dominant side first
- Give the client instructions on where to place their fingers
- Give a demonstration
- Have pt. squeeze with thumb and index & middle together
- Rest for 2-3 minutes between trials
- Test non-dominant side and repeat
Scoring
-Three trials with rest in-between
-Score is the average of the three trials
-Three trials with rest in-between
-Score is the average of the three trials
